Favorable geographical location:
Halfway up China’s coastline, Ningbo is located in the southern wing of Yangtze River Delta economic zone, in the east of Zhejiang Province, adjacent to Shanghai and Hangzhou.

Ningbo covering the total area of 9816 square kilometers (urban area 3730 square kilometers) is a historic and cultural city and the birthplace of Hemudu culture which has more than 7000 years history. Ningbo as one of the five municipalities with independent planning status in China (vice-provincial city, authorized to legislate local rules and regulations, with administration authority of economy in provincial level), is the economic center in the southern wing of Yangtze River Delta and is an important port city in the southeast coastal area. Besides, Ningbo is assessed by U.N. as the most promising city in China.

Jiangbei District,  with Yong River on its Southeast side and Yaojiang River on its South side, is adjacent to Haishu District and Yinzhou District. To its Northeast, there is Zhenhai District and to the West, there is the city of Yuyao. Jiangbei District, covering a total area of 208 square kilometers, is about 27 kilometers long from its East to the West and about 20 kilometers from its South to the North. Jiangbei is an important expansion area of the Ningbo Metropolis and a portal area for Ningbo to get closely connected to Shanghai and to other cities in the Yangtze River Delta. With the completion of the Hangzhou Bay Bridge and improvement of major infrastructure, the significance of Jiangbei District as it being the “living room” and “portal” of Ningbo becomes more obvious.

Transportation of Ningbo:
The traffic of Ningbo consists of highway, railway, aviation, harbor transportation and inland water transportation. Currently it will take 3 hours by train from Shanghai to Wenzhou, 2 hours to Hangzhou, and 4 hours to Jinhua. If by car, it will take 2 hours to Shanghai and only 1 hour to Zhoushan. And from the airport, half an hour driving will take you to the city center. Thanks to the sufficient traffic, Ningbo gets linked with other city in Yangtzi River Delta increasingly close.

With the completion of the cross-sea bridge in the north shore of Hangzhou Bay and improvement of major infrastructure, the geographical advantage of Jiangbei District has become more obvious. Ningbo has formed 2-hour-traffic between Shanghai, Hangzhou and other cities in Yangtzi River Delta. Jiangbei has become the transportation hub in Ningbo connecting Shanghai, Suzhou, Wenzhou and Taizhou. Capital flow, information and talented people will converge here.　

The Ningbo-Xiaoshan railway runs through Jiangbei District from the east to the west. The external north line, national road No.329 and the provincial road No. 34 are intersected here. The city entrance to the cross-sea bridge of Hangzhou Bay that is to be completedI and the north railway station are also located here. The Lishe International airport, the express way from Hangzhou to Ningbo, and Beilun port are all nearby.

The Ningbo Zhoushan Port has opened 232 routes connecting more than 600 ports in over 100 countries and regions in the world.

Ningbo Lishe International Airport has established 30 air routes home and abroad, including to Hong Kong and Singapore. There are more than 600 flights every week. In 2004, passengers reached 1.85 million.

The rapid rail transits that are in plan or already under construction: there are five lines (except line 1), 35 kilometers, 27 stops and 4 transfer stations (Waicao Village Station, Tongtu Road Station, Northern Yong River Station and Zhuangqiaohuo Station).
