"Listening to Red Stories from the War-Torn Years" Event

The heroic spirit on earth remains awe-inspiring through the ages.

On May 14, 92 years ago, the 33-year-old Ying Xiuren faced the enemy's gun muzzle with his head held high, embodying the power of faith. He could have enjoyed a stable life but chose to speak up for the impoverished; he could have retreated to survive but insisted on igniting the spark of revolution with his pen and actions, ultimately sacrificing his precious life for the revolutionary cause.

To commemorate Ying Xiuren, 92 years later, the Jiangbei District launched the "Listening to Red Stories from the War-Torn Years" event. Volunteers, local residents, and over 150 teachers and students from the Ningbo Xiuren School gathered in front of Ying Xiuren's former residence to learn stories of heroes and reflect on the power of the "red spirit."

At the Event

"At the Cihu Martyrs' Cemetery in Jiangbei, Ying Xiuren rests alongside 114 martyrs such as Zhu Hongshan and Zheng Xiahu, etc. Among them, some infiltrated enemy lines to relay intelligence, while others charged on the battlefield. Though their roles differed, they all stepped forward when the nation needed them, forging loyalty with their blood," said Li Jianping, captain of the Ningbo Cixiang Red Volunteer Service Team, during a speech titled “Let the Martyrs' Spirit Illuminate Our Path of Growth”, which ignited the students' passion. "Today, though the martyrs are gone, their spirit endures. We not only commemorate their bravery but also inherit their sense of duty 'to devote oneself to the nation, undaunted by death'."

Li Jianping's Speech

"To cultivate oneself for others, and to refine oneself to benefit others. This is the essence of Ying Xiuren's life goals and ideals. The 'Xiuren Spirit' lives on, passed down through generations," said the students from the Xiuren School, who added, "We are fortunate to be students of the Xiuren School and will forever remember this."

Li Jianping remarked: "As volunteers on the path to a strong nation, we too should take the martyrs as beacons, drawing strength from their spirit to let it shine in the new era. This will inspire more people to embrace their mission, forge ahead, and continue to promote the volunteer spirit to contribute more to the society."
